Emo rockers American Football have officially announced that they have their long-anticipated fourth record on the way this year.

The emo pioneers had already been making waves earlier this year when they kicked off their first major tour in two years throughout the US. Now on their social media accounts, the band have unveiled a picture of what is to become their fourth self-titled record.

Teased as ‘LP4’, the band have posted that the record is due out on May 1st, 2026. The artwork also includes an aerial shot of the night sky against a red background, in keeping with the other shots that have been a fixture of the band’s records ever since their debut back in 2001.

While the band had been fairly quiet throughout the past few years, there was a celebratory feeling in the air when the band announced their tour in February 2026. The tour would also coincide with the 25th anniversary of their groundbreaking debut album.

Having not released music since 2019, the band have kept themselves busy by preserving pieces of their legacy as well. In addition to playing with bands like The 1975 during a few select shows in 2023, the emo legends have also purchased the house that appears on their debut record in Urbana, Illinois, after hearing that it was in danger of being demolished.

Although the band have been sporadic when it comes to new music ever since their reformation in 2014, LP3 did give us a few surprises as well. Alongside the band’s signature emo tunes, the record was the first to feature a guest star, with Hayley Williams of Paramore performing on ‘Uncomfortably Numb’. As of yet, there has been no word on whether there will be any guests on the new record.

In addition to the announcement of the band’s upcoming album and tour, they have also been using many of their tour profits to combat ICE violence in the US. As part of their tour plan, a percentage of their tour revenue will be donated to various anti-ICE organisations.

In a statement alongside the tour, the band promised that every dollar that for every ticket that the tour sold, $1 would be given to Safe Passage International. When asked about their decision to support anti-ICE charities, the band said that their decision was “in response to the deadly violence and intimidation around the country provoked by ICE.”
