Philosophically, the Kansas City Chiefs have always had some leeway for players with questionable character concerns – especially at wide receiver.

First Tyreek Hill, who suffered a litany of controversies during his first few years in the NFL with Kansas City, and more recently former second round pick from back in 2023, Rashee Rice. When on the field, Rice has been a big difference maker for the Chiefs and has shown signs of slowly becoming one of the elite receivers in the league.

Off the field is a different story, and now he has landed in even more trouble as Rice’s ex-girlfriend and mother of his children, Dacoda Jones, has filed a lawsuit against him.

The plaintiff alleges in the lawsuit that Rice engaged in physical abuse towards her starting in December 2023 – towards the end of the SMU product’s rookie season – and continued on until July 2025.

Ex-Girlfriend Files Lawsuit Against Rashee Rice

“Defendant Rashee Rice and Plaintiff Dacoda Jones lived together.” The lawsuit alleges.

“Following an escalation in violent behavior, in December, 2023, Defendant Rashee Rice strangled Plaintiff Dacoda Joans at their shared home in Victory Park, Texas. Defendant Rashee Rice continued to repeatedly assaulted Dacoda Jones over the course of their relationship through July, 2025.”

The document also goes into further detail about the alleged physical abuse directed at Jones from Rice, including during the period whilst Jones was pregnant.

“Defendant Rice has grabbed, choked, strangled, pushed, thrown, scratched, hit, and headbutted Ms. Jones, as well as hit her with inanimate objects. Additionally, he has engaged in other violent and abusive behaviors towards Ms. Jones, including throwing objects, destroying property, punching walls, and breaking furniture, as well as locking her out in the middle of the night.” The lawsuit alleges.

“Many of these behaviors occurred while Ms.Jones was pregnant.”

Rice Lawsuit Follows on From January Accusations

This lawsuit follows on from allegations made by Jones on Instagram last month, where she accused Rice of assaulting her and damaging her possessions.

“He’s very controlling there’s been times he’s came to my new home broken my door, there’s been times when he would put his hands on me while I was pregnant even had the audacity to lock me outside all night in ten degree weather because he got caught cheating. He’s cut up all my shoes and clothes leaving me with nothing because he’s gotten caught up.” Jones posted on Instagram back in January, along with photos of bruises and injuries that are implied to have allegedly resulted from Rice’s actions towards her.

The Chiefs released a statement after the initial accusations, “The club is aware of the allegations on social media and is in communication with the National Football League. We have no further comment at this time”.

Rice also faced a six-game suspension at the start of the 2025 season for his role in a multi-vehicular crash back in 2024, after pleading guilty to two third-degree felony charges back in July 2025.
