Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is facing a civil lawsuit for over $1 million filed by his ex-girlfriend, Dacoda Jones. While Rice was a key contributor to the Chiefs’ 2023 Super Bowl campaign, the legal filing alleges a horrific pattern of physical brutality spanning a 19-month period between December 2023 and July 2025.
The lawsuit, confirmed by court records on Wednesday, claims Jones was “choked, strangled, scratched, hit, and headbutted” by the wideout. Jones, the mother of Rice’s two children, further alleges that the most severe instances of violence occurred while she was pregnant.

That being said, the Chiefs organization has issued a statement noting they are “aware of the allegations on social media” and are in communication with the NFL. The league has confirmed an active investigation into the matter under its Personal Conduct Policy, which could result in Rice being labeled a “repeat offender” following a prior six-game suspension in 2025.

The Lawsuit Details Documented Injuries
For what it’s worth, sources close to Rice have described Jones as a “disgruntled former girlfriend” who is upset that the receiver has moved on. However, the lawsuit details documented injuries, including bleeding and bruising to her face, neck, and chest, alongside reports of Rice punching walls and breaking furniture during fits of rage.
This legal turmoil comes less than a year after Rice pleaded guilty to felony charges involving a high-speed crash in Dallas that injured multiple people. For that incident, a judge sentenced him to five years of deferred probation and 30 days in jail.
Rice remains on a four-year, $6,495,208 rookie contract that carries a 2026 salary cap hit of $2,066,658. In his most recent active stretch during the 2025 season, the wideout recorded 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns over eight games.
Rice was originally drafted No. 55 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft out of SMU. For her part, Jones is seeking more than $1 million in damages, alleging the abuse resulted in physical injury to her face, mouth, and limbs.
