The Seattle Seahawks are for sale, and some followers have thoughts on the idea of Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos buying the team.

It’s official: On Wednesday, February 18, the Seattle Seahawks announced that the team has started the process of being sold. The news comes less than two weeks after the team secured their second Super Bowl win in franchise history.

Now, both Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos are being mentioned as people who may possible purchase the Seattle Seahawks. They both have the financing to do it, but would this really happen?

Following the news of the team’s sale, followers took to social media to voice their thoughts on it, and they were clear about who they’d like to see front the team. A good portion of them championed Musk or Bezos buying it, while others were against the idea.

Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos on Followers’ Wish List of Seattle Seahawks Buyers

After the Seahawks took to social media to share the news, followers were quick to comment, and two names that keep being mentioned are Musk and Bezos.

“Elon Musk, where are you?” one follower asked. Another tagged Musk on X and said, “please,” with three exclamation marks.

One more tagged Musk on X and asked, “Please help us keep the Seahawks in Seattle. We could use an adult at our table here in the great PNW. Just think of all the fun we could have together.”

“Jeff Bezos drives up. Smh,” another said. “Whatever you do. Do not let Bezos touch this team,” another said. “Jeff Bezos or Steve Ballmer should buy the Seattle Seahawks,” another said. One more simply tagged Bezos on X.

“No surprises here. Who are potential buyers is the real question. As a former Amazon employee, I can confidently say it will not be Jeff Bezos,” another added. “Please do not sell them to Elon Musk or Bezos,” another said.

The Seattle Seahawks Officially Announce Sale of Team

As for the team’s official statement, they shared online, “The Estate of Paul G. Allen today announced it has commenced a formal sale process for the Seattle Seahawks NFL franchise, consistent with Allen’s directive to eventually sell his sports holdings and direct all Estate proceeds to philanthropy.”

“The Estate has selected investment bank Allen & Company and law firm Latham & Watkins to lead the sale process,” the statement continued, “which is estimated to continue through the 2026 off-season. NFL owners must then ratify a final purchase agreement.”

In a January 30 piece for SI, Connor Benintendi names Bezos as a possible new owner. In the piece, he comments on the billionaire’s ties to the city of Seattle.

“Bezos wasn’t born and raised in Washington State, nor has he primarily lived in the area for a few years. However, Amazon’s Corporate Headquarters is still in Seattle, and he has plenty of money to potentially throw at a purchase of the team,” Benintendi states.

He adds, “There’s been speculation in the past about whether Bezos would inquire about buying the Seahawks, and now might be that time. He’s already dabbled in the sports realm with broadcasting rights to NFL games, which shows he at least wants a slice of the pie.”
