Charania notes the 29-year-old Portland native rehabbed and played through the torn meniscus in his left knee earlier in the season, but the decision was made to have the procedure at present.
A three-time All-Star, Sabonis was in his 10th NBA season out of Gonzaga and fifth with the Kings. He appeared in just 19 games this season, averaging 15.8 points on .559 shooting, 11.4 boards and 4.1 assists over 29.7 minutes a night.
Sabonis, the son of Basketball Hall of Famer Arvydas Sabonis, has appeared in 665 career games with the Kings, Indiana Pacers and Oklahoma City Thunder.
