“Ridiculous” “We Need Him”: Fans React As Ex-Jets GM Advises Chiefs To Let Go of Travis Kelce…

Whether Travis Kelce is coming back to play another year with the Kansas City Chiefs has been one of the most talked-about storylines of the offseason so far.

The star Tight End is currently 36 years old and has expressed confusion about whether he wants to return to play in the 2026 NFL season.

Ex-Jets general manager, Mike Tannenbaum, went on SportsCentre on Wednesday and shared his opinion on whether the Chiefs should welcome Travis Kelce for another year, and said that if it was upto him, he would make the difficult decision of letting the star Tight End go.

Tannnen said he has made a mistake of projecting what the player has done already instead of what they are going to do, and said that while Travis Kelce is a first ballot hall of famer, his best days are behind him, according to his performance from the 2025 season, which showcased his hesitation towards explosive plays.

The ex-general manager further advised the Chiefs to get a younger Tight End who is faster and more explosive.

“That’s a bold take from Tannenbaum. Moving on from Travis Kelce would be a tough call for the Chiefs, given his impact on the field and chemistry with Mahomes. But if they’re thinking long-term, maybe it’s about cap space and youth.” one fan reacted.

“Very rarely do you have a sure thing HOF one of the best players of all time at their position that has played 10+ seasons with one team. Chiefs have a duty to themselves and their fans to keep Kelce until he is done.” another fan shared their thoughts.

“You could think of it as different way. It isn’t that you are cutting ties with Kelce. If Travis decides to stay, you tell him your training his replacement. If he goes, you tell him your drafting his replacement. Either way you’re preparing, Travis Kelce will understand.” another fan shared.

“If you wanted to know why he’s not a GM anymore… here ya go. Kelce was top 3 in stats among tight ends last season. At 36. Is he the same athlete he was at 24 years old? No, but he doesn’t need to be. If Travis wants to play KC is welcoming him with open arms.” another fan pointed out.

“Ridiculous. He was leading all TE’s in the AFC statistically last year and brings leadership as Mahomes returns from an injury. We need him to return.” Another fan said.

“Considering that he’s still a top player in his position, I don’t understand the sentiment. I do think he should be utilized less, but he’s still better than 80% of the TEs in the league at 37 lol.” Another fan highlighted.

Travis Kelce’s Mom, Donna, Shares Her Stance on the Potential Retirement Decision

Travis Kelce’s mom, Donna Kelce, has been a massive support for the Chiefs star ever since he got drafted by the franchise in the 2013 NFL draft. She has been there in the stands, cheering on both her sons on most of the important game days, and she continues to stand in support of her younger son as he makes a difficult career decision.

Earlier this week, Donna Kelce told TMZ that she just wants Travis to do what he feels the most comfortable doing and said that the Chiefs star tight end has to talk to people in his life to decide what he wants to do.

“So I’m not sure. We’ll see what happens!” Donna Kelce added.

While the retirement decision is still under review, the Kelce family is reportedly planning an offseason wedding for Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift after the two got engaged on August 26th.
