While the Los Angeles Rams‘ defense was one of the best in the league during the 2025 regular season, the playoffs presented a different story.

The Rams’ defense allowed 79 points across three games in the Super Bowl run, the most among teams that had three or more postseason.

With free agency and the draft happening soon, the Rams can begin adding pieces to help prevent getting scored on so frequently.

The Los Angeles Rams secondary allowed 216.7 passing yards per game in the 2025 season, which is in the top half of the league.

LA didn’t have any standout names in the secondary when it comes to defending the pass game, but they were able to make it to the NFC Championship game.

With the resources available, the Rams could upgrade the secondary to a defense that already has some promising pieces — the defensive line.

LA will be forced to say goodbye to some before adding pieces to the team, with ESPN’s Aaron Schatz believing the Rams should part ways with cornerback Darious Williams, who should receive a change of scenery, allowing LA to have a younger replacement.

“The eight-year veteran was a useful part of the Rams’ defense in 2025, even though he started just three games. Williams ranked high in my coverage DVOA metric and allowed just 6.4 yards per target,” Schatz wrote.

“However, he is going to be 33 next month and doesn’t have any guaranteed money remaining on his contract. It would be easy for the Rams to go another direction in the secondary, leaving Williams to find another job elsewhere.”

The 2025 season didn’t pan out for the defensive back as it did in his better seasons. Williams recorded 25 tackles, 8 pass deflections and a single interception.

Williams has missed 10 games over the last two seasons and may be a bit of a liability when it comes to showing up on gameday. The Rams’ secondary needs to get a younger corner who will show up consistently.

If the Rams were to part ways with Williams, the team would save $7.5 million in cap space, putting the organization over $50 million available for the upcoming free agency — Williams is entering the final year of his three-year, $22.5 million deal.

This is the cornerback’s second stint with the Los Angeles Rams after being with the organization from the 2018 season to 2021.

Getting Secondary Help In the 2026 NFL Draft

One positive the Los Angeles Rams have heading into the offseason is having two first-round picks, following their trade out of last year’s first round and the acquisition of the Atlanta Falcons‘ first selection in 2026.

The draft order is set, with the Rams having the 13th and 29th overall pick.

Being in mock draft season, many NFL draft analysts have the Rams taking at least one cornerback with one of their first-round picks.

Names such as Tennessee Volunteers Jermod McCoy and Colton Hood, LSU’s Mansoor Delane and Clemson’s Avieon Terrell are some of the names that come up the most in mock drafts.

The Los Angeles Rams will need to decide on Darious Williams with the new league year in just a couple of weeks.
