COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –Filip Soderqvist has been named the Mountain West Men's Tennis Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.
Soderqvist earned the honor after going undefeated in singles and doubles as the Broncos secured a 6-1 victory over Wichita State and a 5-2 win over Denver.
The freshman rallied to defeat nationally ranked No. 101 Zaid Mashni of Wichita State after dropping the first set, earning a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory. He followed that performance with a win over Denver's Samuel Rovai, claiming a 5-7, 7-6 (0), 6-3 victory. Competing at the No. 2 position in all matches, Soderqvist recorded his 15th singles win of the season.
In doubles play, Soderqvist teamed with Stewart Aronson to post a 6-4 win over Wichita State's Alejandro Jacome and Amir Milushev, followed by a 6-2 victory against Denver's Aaron Beduhn and Connor Robb-Wilcox.
The honor marks the first weekly award of Soderqvist's career and Boise State's first of the season.
Boise State will travel to Phoenix, Arizona, to face Grand Canyon and Lipscomb on Feb. 21. The Broncos will take on the Lopes at noon MT and the Bisons at 5 p.m. MT.
