Atletico Madrid director confirms interest in former Liverpool target

While Liverpool focus on their summer recruitment plans, speculation has emerged that one of their key players is attracting interest from rivals Manchester United.

The Reds had a record-breaking transfer window, smashing their club record twice – first with Florian Wirtz and then Alexander Isak. Other major signings included Hugo Ekitike (£79m), Milos Kerkez (£40m), Jeremie Frimpong (£29.5m), and Giovanni Leoni (£26m).

Although Liverpool’s season has not gone entirely as planned, Arne Slot’s squad remain competitive in the Champions League and FA Cup, while also chasing European qualification. Retaining and building on their summer investments is a priority.

Manchester United are reportedly eyeing Alexis Mac Allister as a potential midfield recruit for next summer. The 27-year-old has emerged as a target as United look to bolster their squad.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid have been linked with former Liverpool target Ederson. After completing two major deals with Atalanta in January – Giacomo Raspadori returning to Serie A and Ademola Lookman moving to Spain for €35m plus bonuses – relations between the clubs are strong. Atletico could leverage this partnership to pursue Ederson in the coming months.

Ederson’s current contract with Atalanta runs until the summer of 2027, meaning that if he does not extend, the 2026 summer transfer window could be the club’s final opportunity to sell the 26-year-old close to his market value.

Diego Simeone is reportedly very keen on signing Ederson, with Atletico Madrid reportedly willing to double his wages from around €2m per season to approximately €4m.

Atletico Madrid director Mateu Alemany has confirmed the club’s interest in signing Ederson ahead of the summer transfer window. Alemany said: “Ederson? One of the very good players we have on our list.” Ederson has made 30 appearances for Atalanta this season, scoring two goals and providing one assist across all competitions.
