“Get Out” Chiefs Upset Wrong Government, Asked To Leave The State As Things Turn Ugly (Report)

Missouri House Speaker Pro-Tem Chad Perkins has gone viral with a fiery rant urging the Kansas City Chiefs to leave Arrowhead Stadium immediately—rather than wait until their new $3 billion domed stadium in Kansas opens in 2031.

Military planes flyover as fireworks are fired before the first quarter during the AFC championship NFL football game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Kansas City Chiefs, Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022, at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

Missouri Politician Tells Chiefs “Get Out” of Arrowhead: Speaker Pro-Tem Chad Perkins Dares Team to Play High School Fields Until Kansas Stadium Opens

In an interview with Matthew Pilger of Missourinet (published February 18, 2026), Perkins expressed frustration over the Chiefs’ decision to relocate across the state line after decades at Arrowhead (home since 1972). Despite the team having five more seasons remaining in Missouri under the current lease, Perkins suggested the Jackson County Sports Authority should force an early exit:

“If I’ve given you everything you ask and treated you like a little princess and you leave anyway, then maybe I need to take a different tactic. But if you’re going to leave and go to Kansas, then why are we giving out license plates for a business that’s based in Kansas?”

He doubled down with a provocative dare:

“Arrowhead Stadium’s not owned by the Chiefs, it’s owned by the Jackson County Sports Authority. If I were the Jackson County Sports Authority, I’d tell him, get out right now. Just get your stuff and get out now. Go play football at a high school field in Overland Park. I don’t care. And you can sue me and we can go to court, and I think a Missouri jury might just agree with me right now, right?”

Perkins’ comments come just weeks after the Chiefs secured a landmark stadium deal with Kansas, including public funding and a dome in the Kansas City, Kansas area. The move was seen as a response to years of failed negotiations in Missouri, where voters rejected multiple tax-increase proposals to fund Arrowhead renovations.

Chiefs Stadium Timeline and Missouri-Kansas Rivalry

December 2025: Chiefs announce Kansas deal — $3 billion dome, opening in 2031.

Remaining Lease: Chiefs obligated to play at Arrowhead through 2030 season (five more years).

Missouri’s Position: State and Jackson County officials have expressed disappointment but no legal mechanism exists to force an early exit without mutual agreement or breach.

Public Funding Debate: Perkins’ license plate comment refers to Missouri offering specialty Chiefs plates (generating revenue for the team), which he says should end if the franchise relocates.

The Chiefs have not commented on Perkins’ remarks. Team president Mark Donovan previously emphasized the decision was driven by long-term facility needs and the inability to secure comparable funding in Missouri.

Fan and Political Reactions

The comments have sparked heated debate online:

Chiefs fans called Perkins “bitter” and “unprofessional,” with many pointing out Arrowhead’s aging infrastructure and the team’s economic impact on the region.

Missouri residents echoed Perkins’ frustration, with some supporting an aggressive stance to protect taxpayer interests.

Kansas-side supporters celebrated the move, framing it as economic development for the Kansas City metro.

Perkins’ high-school-field jab—suggesting the Chiefs play at a venue in Overland Park, Kansas—has become a meme, with fans joking about Patrick Mahomes throwing passes on turf with bleachers.

No action has been taken by the Jackson County Sports Authority or state officials to force an early departure. The Chiefs remain committed to Arrowhead through 2030, with the 2026 season opener still scheduled there.

This latest chapter underscores the deep Missouri-Kansas rivalry over the Chiefs and the ongoing tension surrounding public funding for sports venues. Chiefs Kingdom is watching closely—will the team stay the full five years, or could negotiations accelerate an earlier move?
