Fitzpatrick originally began his career with Miami when he was its first round draft pick back in 2018. He would later be traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2019 after just 18 total games. Pittsburgh is where Fitzpatrick would turn into one of the best safeties in the NFL making five Pro Bowls, three All-Pro teams and led the league in interceptions in 2022.

The Steelers ultimately traded Fitzpatrick back to the Dolphins ahead of the 2025 season in exchange for Jalen Ramsey.

Fitzpatrick is due to become a free agent after 2027 and is owed $18 million for the final year of his deal.

He is the second Alabama player Miami is looking to offload this summer as the team is looking at trade options for starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa as well.
