She also accused him of destructive behavior at home. For instance, Jones says Rice sometimes broke furniture, punched walls, and locked Jones outside overnight. Aggravating the report, the lawsuit claims that some of these incidents occurred while Jones was pregnant. As of this report, Rice has yet to be criminally charged with any of these accusations. However, these allegations didn’t begin in the law court.
Earlier in January, Jones launched a series of public claims against Rice on Instagram. In a now-deleted Instagram post, she claims she’s “dealt with abuse for years,” and is “so tired of keeping quiet.”
Although she didn’t mention the athlete’s name, she identified the alleged abuser as the father of her kids. Following the social media allegations, Rice admitted he was aware of some of them and was in contact with the NFL. Meanwhile, the league has also indicated that it was reviewing the situation under its personal conduct policy.
The lawsuit marks the latest off-field development involving Rice, who has already faced disciplinary actions from the NFL. He began the 2025 season serving a six-game ban over his role in a multicar crash in Dallas during the 2024 offseason. The wide receiver pleaded guilty to felony charges linked to the incident and received probation under a deferred adjudication agreement.
A hearing in the civil case is set for May 4, 2026. Neither Rice nor his legal team has publicly reacted to the lawsuit.
