Following Super Bowl LX, the Seattle Seahawks (Champions) are set for a multi-billion-dollar sale process as of Wednesday. The announcement comes exactly 10 days after the Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots 29-13. Apparently, it fulfils a legal directive from the late Paul G. Allen to dedicate sports holding proceeds to philanthropy.
The Estate of Paul G. Allen officially launched the sale and has tasked investment bank Allen & Company and law firm Latham & Watkins to spearhead the transaction. Allen originally purchased the franchise for approximately $194 million in 1997 to prevent a move to Southern California. Now, industry projections suggest the final price could range from $8 billion to $11 billion.

The report surfaced online shortly after the announcement, as fans reacted to the estate’s decision to donate the entire proceeds. One fan criticized the move on X, writing:
“Call me an a***ole but leaving your entire net worth to philanthropy especially when it’s large is bullshit. If you have no kids or they absolutely don’t deserve it, you’re telling me there’s nobody in your life, no young driven people who deserve a chance to build something?” another wrote.

Other observers shared conspiracy theories regarding the timing of the sale and the team’s recent championship.
“Conspiracy theory… the NFL had the Seahawks win the superbowl because they knew they were going up for sale. And they want teams to sell for as high a price as possible. What better way to inflate the value of a team,” one commented.

One individual’s post garnered attention for suggesting the league influenced the win to inflate the franchise’s value:
“A prime tv analyst allegedly calls the league office official, interferes in a big game call, a failed 2 pt conversion is overturned, Hawks win the game & get #1 seed, home field in the playoffs, win the SB, now they’re up for sale, franchise is worth more now, coincidence? hmm..,” one wrote.

As the Seahawks, valued at $6.7B (per Forbes), reach their highest valuation ever, speculation has turned to potential buyers like Jeff Bezos. Fans expect Amazon Prime branding to ‘appear throughout the stadium’ should he succeed in the bid.
“Bezos gonna buy the team I would bet $100 on it. There will be Amazon Prime advertising all over the stadium,” a fan commented.
The vetting and bidding phases are expected to continue through the 2026 offseason to ensure a seamless transition of power.
“Most unwanted franchise in professional sports,” a fan wrote.
“This is great news for 49ers fans. We can only hope some dimwit like Jed York buys the team and runs them into the ground,” another wrote.
