Liam Rosenior keeps 18-year-old Chelsea star in training ahead of Burnley clash

Liam Rosenior was able to hand Jesse Derry a Chelsea debut during the dominant FA Cup win against Hull City, and he has now been further rewarded for his progress.

The 18-year-old came on for the closing minutes in the 5-1 victory, and impressed during his time on the pitch alongside some of the first team stars.

Jack Grealish was quick to praise Derry after the game, describing his display as ‘top’ after his arrival to proceedings.

Jesse Derry rewarded for first team debut by staying in Chelsea training

A very strong season so far with the academy led to him having that chance, and it looks as if Rosenior was impressed enough to reward him further.

As the Chelsea website released pictures of training ahead of their next Premier League game against Burnley, Derry can be seen battling for the ball with star midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Even just training alongside players like the Ecuador international will be great for his development, however there will now be opportunities for him to build on this in the coming weeks.

Chelsea’s fixture list is going to continue to be hectic from next month upon their return to the Champions League, and injuries in the current squad could work out very nicely for the Englishman.

Jamie Gittens was signed for big money over the summer in an attempt for Chelsea to sort their left-wing issues, however things have not worked out for him so far.

Gittens has suffered an injury that will keep him out for a prolonged period of time, leaving a vacant space in attack in the matchday squad.

Derry certainly has the chance to make this his own, and wavering performances from Alejandro Garnacho have not seen him secure a start so far.

It remains to be seen how many chances the youngster gets, although an FA Cup tie against Wrexham next month could be the perfect opportunity for him to prove his worth again.
