The Seattle Seahawks have over $63 million in cap space, but the team has only one pure safety under contract through 2026, Julian Love – although former second round pick and breakout star Nick Emmanwori can play the position alongside being deployed in the box and as a nickel corner.

The Seahawks could well sign Ty Okada and A.J. Finley; Seattle’s backup safeties throughout the 2025 season; to their respective tenders, but they will still be short a starting player on the backend of their defense, as starter Coby Bryant is set to hit free agency next month.

With Bryant not being signed to a new deal, Seattle will have to look for his replacement, and one name that makes sense is Miami Dolphins All-Pro Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick did well on a middle-of-the-pack Dolphins defense in 2025, even if he is not quite at the level he was in his perennial All-Pro prime. And according to Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz, Miami is looking to trade their former first round pick from back in 2018 for the second time in his career.

How Much Would Fitzpatrick Cost For the Seahawks?

Having been traded as part of the Jalen Ramsey deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers last summer, which saw Fitzpatrick and a 5th rounder head to Pittsburgh in exchange for Ramsey, Jonnu Smith and a 7th rounder, it is unlikely that Seattle would have to give up more than a mid to late day three pick for Alabama alum’s services.

As for salary, Spotrac founder Michael Ginnitti broke down what the finances of trading for Fitzpatrick would look like for both franchises.

Seattle would take on $15.6 million against their cap – I.e. Fitzpatrick’s base salary – whilst Miami would end up with around $13 million in dead cap.

Seahawks Can Capitalize on Dolphins Clear-Out

The Dolphins are seemingly having a fire sale this offseason, having already parted ways with the likes of Bradley Chubb, Tyreek Hill and James Daniels earlier this week, as they look to build a young team around a core base of key players already on the roster.

For the Seahawks, there is a legitimate argument to be made as to how much of an upgrade over Bryant the ex-Steelers product would be.

But at this point it looks like general manager John Schneider does not seem interested in bringing back the team’s starting free safety from last year, perhaps due to excessive contract demands or perceived weaknesses in his game.

Fitzpatrick has just one year left on his deal, so he would represent a low future-commitment investment with high-upside that also brings substantial veteran leadership and playing experience.
