Liverpool have confirmed that they will sign Jeremy Jacquet in the summer, but it has emerged that PSG pulled out of the race for a specific reason.
The Reds will welcome the 20-year-old to the club in the summer, but it will be under different circumstances than first thought.
After Liverpool reached an agreement with Rennes for his transfer to Merseyside, he suffered an injury while in action for the French side.
He suffered a serious shoulder injury while playing against RC Lens but it doesn’t seem likely to impact his move to Liverpool.
It now seems that a previous shoulder injury actually prevented him from joining PSG.
Why PSG abandoned signing Jeremy Jacquet
Liverpool will welcome Jacquet to the AXA Training Centre in the summer when the squad reports for pre-season, although some of the players will return late after the FIFA World Cup.
Now, a report from Le Parisien claims that a former member of PSG’s youth department has revealed hitherto unknown information about why the Ligue 1 giants pulled back on their interest in Jacquet before his move to Rennes.

Before Liverpool officially won the race for his signature, PSG were widely considered the favourites to land the French 20-year-old.
“PSG hesitated between him and Sékou Doucouré, whose profile was more in line with the club’s vision for the future,” a former member of PSG’s youth department told Le Parisien. “Jacquet had talent, but he seemed less technically ready.
“When I first saw him in Joinville, there weren’t many clubs interested in him,” former Rennes scout Khaled Gaarba revealed.
“I asked to see his father, Dominique, who ran the club’s refreshment stand. He was the spitting image of his son: tall, with long legs.
“He injured his shoulder before he even touched the ball. Jeremy was gutted, but we immediately reassured him by explaining that if he was there, it was because we believed in him. He came back for a training camp at the end of the season, this time at 100 percent fitness, and after developing further, that’s when he won everyone over.”
