Jamie Carragher confessed he was "glad" that Arsenal dropped more points in the Premier League title race - but would still rather they get over the line ahead of Manchester City.

The Gunners held a two-goal lead over bottom side Wolves on Wednesday night, but conceded in stoppage time to surrender their advantage and had to settle for a point. It means that City can now close to within two points if they win their game in hand.

Arsenal have drawn their last two league outings with Brentford also holding them to a stalemate recently. It has seen their lead at the top shrink and Carragher admits that having the title race very much live going into the business end of the season makes it more entertaining.

That said, the ex- Liverpool defender did name Arsenal as his preferred winners of the title, owing to the fact it would continue to put names on the trophy over recent years. Prior to this season the last eight Premier Leagues had been shared by either City or Liverpool.

Carragher said on CBS: "I think I would rather Arsenal win it, because I think it is good for a league to have different winners. It would mean over the last three years we'd have had three different winners, which I think is good.

"But what I don't want, unless its my own team, to run away with a league so I'm glad with that result tonight, because it makes it exciting and gives us things to talk about, creates stories between now and the end of the season. So I think its good for the Premier League."

Arsenal have been in every title race since the 2022/23 season, but have continued to come out second best. In two of those seasons it was City who managed to overtake them late in the day and again Pep Guardiola's side are trying to chase them down.

The Gunners still need to visit the Etihad and the result at Wolves means that the Manchester outfit now know they can win all their remaining games and overhaul Mikel Arteta's side.

The north Londoners still need to rid of the doubt surrounding their inability to get over the line. They haven't claimed a trophy since the FA Cup in 2020 despite ploughing huge sums of money into the squad since that period.

They remain in contention for all four trophies this season but their successive draws in the Premier League have seen questions raised over whether they can complete the job.
