Giannis Antetokounmpo’s commitment to the Milwaukee Bucks has become uncertain, and each defeat only adds to questions about his long-term future with the team. With his name widely discussed as a potential trade target this summer, the Los Angeles Lakers reportedly believe they have a real shot at bringing him on board next season.
A former Lakers champion, however, cautions that the team should think carefully about the complications of combining two ball-dominant superstars.
“This fit with Giannis and Luka, I don’t know if this works. I was skeptical of even LeBron and Luka,” Danny Green commented during his appearance at ESPN.

“LeBron is a high-IQ guy, more of a passer; Giannis needs the ball, he’s more of a transition guy. Luka’s more of a half-court slow-it-down, but he also needs the ball. When I first heard it, I was excited, but would it actually work? I don’t know, I’m not sure how I feel about it, not sure if it makes a ton of sense.”
Danny Green may not have been a superstar, but he played a key role on multiple championship teams, including the 2020 Lakers. He understands better than most what it takes to win at the highest level, and his doubts about a potential dream pairing carry weight.

On paper, Giannis Antetokounmpo is the kind of player every team would chase. As a two-time MVP and former Defensive Player of the Year, he can control the game on both ends, posting career averages of 24.0 points, 9.9 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 55.4 percent from the field.
While not a reliable long-range shooter, he dominates in transition and consistently creates high-percentage scoring opportunities for teammates when attacking the rim.
Looking at Luka Doncic’s style, which relies heavily on perimeter play before driving inside, it’s easy to understand why the Lakers might consider a long-term pairing.

Skeptics like Danny Green, however, argue that two ball-dominant stars like Doncic and Giannis would struggle to coexist. Both demand the ball constantly, making it difficult for either to find the space needed to be fully effective.
As the Lakers weigh a potential pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo, they may need to carefully consider how his style would mesh with Luka Doncic’s. For a franchise already built around the Slovenian, bringing in a superstar of Giannis’ caliber could disrupt the team’s dynamics in unpredictable ways.
