Liverpool’s set-piece record has improved since Aaron Briggs left the club back in December 2025.
Briggs departed at the back of last year, and the Reds opted against signing another set-piece coach for the remainder of the campaign.
It’s a decision that, thus far, has clearly paid off when looking at how many goals the Merseyside outfit have scored and conceded in the games since.

Under Briggs, Liverpool netted eight set-pieces while conceding 13 in the first half of the 2025/26 season, a -5 total.
In the fixtures since he left his role, Slot’s men have already scored eight with just two conceded, a +6 total.
Arne Slot doesn’t want to blame Aaron Briggs
Slot has since spoken to the media ahead of the Nottingham Forest clash this week and was asked about the improvement in Liverpool’s set-pieces since Briggs left.
However, the Dutchman said it would be ‘unfair’ to blame him for the struggles in the first half of 2025/26.

He stated: “It would be very unfair to Aaron [Briggs] as he was partly responsible but it’s ultimately mine. We were so, so unlucky in that period. We had multiple chances to score.
“Things have gone back to normal now which we expected. In the Champions League with Aaron [Briggs] with us we were number one in set-pieces. I would just say things have gone back to normal. At the moment we are happy with way things are, but we are always looking for ways to strengthen the staff.”

Arne Slot suggests why Liverpool are improving
Alongside their set pieces getting better, Liverpool have now picked up two wins from two.
They go into the latest gameweek three points behind Manchester United and will be level on points with the Red Devils, who play on Monday, if they win against Forest.
Now, Slot has suggested that the type of teams Liverpool have faced recently has helped their form.
He said: “The teams we previously faced haven’t been as entertaining as the teams we have recently faced.
“For such a large part of a season where we’ve lost or drawn, we didn’t deserve it. The amount of times we’ve created more than enough chances has been a lot. You could argue if we created a lot of chances against Brighton, but we scored three. Things have gone a bit more back to normal.”
