Veteran Mike Tomlin assistant leaves Steelers for job with a new AFC team

[Pittsburgh Steelers](https://www.pennlive.com/steelers/) wide receivers coach [Zach Azzanni](https://www.pennlive.com/steelers/2026/01/pittsburgh-steelers-hiring-former-bills-cowboys-wide-receiver-coach.html) has joined the Las Vegas Raiders as their wide receivers coach under new head coach Klint Kubiak. Azzanni was not retained by Mike McCarthy, who instead hired former Buffalo Bills wide receivers coach Adam Henry.

Azzanni had been with the Steelers for the last two seasons and was hired after Pittsburgh moved on from Frisman Jackson.

Azzanni has over a decade of wide receiver coaching experience in the NFL. Before coming to the Steelers, he was the wide receivers coach with the Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos and New York Jets.

He spent five seasons with the Broncos in the same position before heading to the Jets, where he spent just one season. Now, the Raiders will hope he can bring a new attitude to their room as they look to establish a new identity.

Azzanni, 49, had a slow climb through the college ranks, starting out as a wide receivers coach at Valparaiso in 1999. His most extended stay in college came in Knoxville, where he was the wide receivers coach with the Tennessee Volunteers.

In 2015, Azzanni became Tennessee’s passing game coordinator on top of being the wide receivers coach before leaping to the NFL in 2017.
