Player ‘already being called’ by Chelsea and Manchester City’ – €28m battle is underway

Chelsea and Manchester City are already making calls to Genk youngster Konstantinos Karetsas as a race develops in Europe for his signature.

That’s according to 24 Sata and Het Belang van Limburg. Both newspapers cover the 18-year-old today. According to them, Chelsea and Manchester City are very much making an effort to sign Karetsas.

The youngster is the undisputed star at Genk at this moment in time. This season he has three goals and 15 assists to his name in 35 games.

His record for the club is six goals and 20 assists in 78 games. He also has six goals and five assists in 20 games for their youth side.

Chelsea and Manchester City calling

He’s an undisputed star in the making and that’s got the big sides calling. According to 24 Sata, Chelsea and Manchester City have already put themselves in the mix.

So too have Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. The race is very much on for the Genk star. That might be because some are saying that only Kevin de Bruyne has played better for Genk.

That is high praise indeed and will certainly make ears prick up at the Etihad given the Belgian’s status there.

HBVL, meanwhile, put a price tag on the midfielder’s head. According to their information, the ‘Genk wonder boy’ is valued at around €28m. That’s hardly an insurmountable figure for either Chelsea or Manchester City.

Already rejected Manchester City

The Premier League duo have been interested in a while too. Indeed, Karetsas revealed in 2024 that he’d previously turned down Pep Guardiola’s side.

They’re not concerned, though. Sport Witness covered a report about them reviving their interest back in November. Chelsea, meanwhile, joined the hunt back in December 2024 and seemingly haven’t stop following Karetsas since.

Now calls are being made, although how they’re being received isn’t mentioned. Given his previous dislike of City’s offer when he was younger, Karetsas may take some convincing.
