Why Chelsea striker is still likely to stay at Stamford Bridge despite five teams interested

Liam Delap has not had an easy first season at Chelsea, and that has meant increasing rumours about him leaving this summer.

Chelsea have the most important third of their season still to play, but that’s not stopping speculation about action this summer. One thing being debated is the future of Liam Delap, with more sources coming out and saying that the Blues would be willing to loan or sell him.

A report from CaughtOffside yesterday claimed that there are five Premier League teams with an interest if Chelsea are willing to move on: Manchester United, Brighton Newcastle, Everton and Sunderland. Their source also says he would be “surprised” if the former Ipswich striker was still with us next season, after scoring just one Premier League goal so far in his maiden campaign since making the move to Stamford Bridge.

It seems like people are getting way too ahead of themselves on this one. Yes the potential arrival of Nicolas Jackson does increase the chances we look to move Delap on, and yes we’ve seen these sporting directors cut their losses on players after just a year.

But right now that feels like a secondary option, with a sale or loan of Jackson obviously preferred. It’s only if that starts to look difficult that we think they’ll consider emergency measures with Delap.

It looks like Marc Cucurella could be missing for a while, so Chelsea fans are wondering about what possible solutions there could be at left back.

Chelsea have lost an academy talent to Tottenham, with another starlet choosing to move away from the Cobham academy.
