**After a challenge from Spurs defender Micky van de Ven broke his leg in December, Alexander Isak will be back in action in late March, reports Arne Slot.**
Just as he was finding his feet following a frustrating start to his new life at Anfield, Isak was dealt a tough blow.
In the act of scoring a lovely goal against Tottenham, the Swede received a crunching tackle from van de Ven and has only recently returned to some light grass work at the AXA Training Centre.
Isak is yet to take part in team training and is currently working on a personalised training programme to get him back up to speed, focusing on strengthening the muscles that have been forced into months of rest.
Arne Slot reveals Alexander Isak return
---------------------------------------
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League encounter with Nottingham Forest at the weekend, Slot has revealed that he hopes to have Isak back soon.
_“Alex has been back on the pitch, not with his football boots but with his running shoes for the first time this week,”_ Slot said.
_“It’s nice for him to go on the pitch and it’s nice for us to see him here but there is still a lot of work to be done when you arrive in the final stages of your rehab. As long as you’re in the gym and not the pitch, that’s not the nicest part._
_“The next step is doing work with the ball, which every player likes most. Then the next step is to come into the group and then it takes a while before you’re ready to play. But it’s nice that his rehab goes well – it’s a compliment to him and our medical staff.”_
> Wirtz, Ekitike, Isak have shared the pitch for 15 minutes this season and they produced this goal.

Before his untimely injury, Isak managed three goals and one assist across 781 minutes of play.
Even before he broke his leg, the former Newcastle United striker was not fit enough to do his best work in a Liverpool shirt. Hugo Ekitike was upstaging him even then.
The hope is that after months of physio, Isak will be ready to contend with the high-level football Liverpool must play to finish in the Premier League top four, and to win the FA Cup and Champions League.
All three of these aims will require a level of football that Liverpool are yet to display on a consistent basis but with Isak back in the fold, they could be inspired to higher levels.
