Ayaka Yamashita's acrobatic save against Chelsea has been shortlisted for February's British Gas Save of the Month award.
City would go on to cruise to victory at the Etihad Stadium, beating the reigning champions 5-1 thanks to a Kerolin hat-trick plus further goals from Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw and Vivianne Miedema.
Kerolin handed us an early lead but, after the opener, Chelsea began to take control of possession and applied plenty of pressure in search of an equaliser.
And just after the half-hour mark, Yamashita was called into action to preserve our lead when Erin Cuthbert let fly from distance.
VOTE FOR AYAKA YAMASHITA
The Chelsea midfielder’s effort looked like it was sneaking under the City crossbar, until our goalkeeper acrobatically tipped it over to keep it at 1-0.
It would prove an important save with Shaw doubling our lead just before the break to set Andrée Jeglertz’s side on our way to an impressive win.
And in recognition, Yamashita’s stop has been shortlisted for Save of the Month, with the vote closing at 10:00 on Tuesday 24 February.
