Wolves Player Ratings vs Arsenal: Hugo’s Wonder Goal and Edozie’s Late Heroics

ANDREW BENNETT'S player ratings as Santi Bueno earns Man of the Match, Hugo Bueno scores a wonder goal, and debutant Tom Edozie grabs a late equaliser. Plus notes on Rob Edwards’ selection

Jose Sa – 6

Could not do anything for either Arsenal goal, did what was required when called upon especially during set plays. Was unconvincing with his feet however often put into unnecessary situations.

JACKSON Tchatchoua – 4

Defensively did a job against his opponents but as Wolves gained more of the ball in the second half Jackson’s poor touch and lack of belief saw him suffer. In the position of wingback really need to be utilised when progressing forwards unfortunately once again this season Tchatchoua failed on this account. A frustrating watch and rightfully replaced.

YERSON Mosquera – 6

Very solid against Martinelli and clearly enjoyed his battle. Another game of awful long throws, but as I presume this is an instruction from the manager can’t fault Mosquera too much as to keep trying the same thing again and again you should expect the same results.

SANTI Bueno – 8 (MoTM)

A solid performance from Santi who is becoming Mr efficient as the season progresses. Totally locked down Gyokeres and Jesus after him. Improving showing more physicality.

Ladislav Krejci – 5

Made multiple errors in passing a weaker performance from one of Wolves more reliable players this season. Did the job defensively.

Hugo Bueno – 7

Scored an absolute wonder goal, a goal coming now for multiple weeks. Fully deserved and put Wolves back into the game. Arguably at fault for the second Arsenal goal not pushing up fast enough.

Angel Gomes – N/A

Was withdrawn on 22 minutes with an injury but really was unable to get into the game. Whom replaced Angel was more interesting. Tolu entering the field meaning Bellegarde dropping back into midfield. An admission from Rob Edwards the starting line up and opening 20 minutes without Tolu’s physicality were lacking.

Andre – 7

Solid performance was all over the pitch, gave the strong Arsenal midfield something to think about.

jean Ricner Bellegarde – 6

Really struggled until he moved back into central midfield. Clearly left it all out on the pitch with effort given, faded and was substituted.

Mateus Mane – 7

Always looking to progress the ball forwards was involved in Wolves equaliser putting Raya and Gabriel under pressure.

Adam Armstrong – 7

Struggled on his own up front, when was moved back and had Tolu to work off clearly better. Showed a lot of running and had a good effort in the second half just over the bar.

The Subs:

Tolu Arokodare – 7

Totally changed the game for Wolves and should’ve been starting in my eyes. Gave the Arsenal side a challenge and provided Wolves the chance to push up the pitch. Was crucial in getting the ball down pushing it to the left in the build up to Wolves equaliser.

Rodrigo Gomes – 6

Immediate improvement on Jackson looked to progress the ball up the pitch. Didn’t make much impact but was clearly lively.

Tom Edozie – 7

A dream debut from Edozie, most of Wolverhampton will not have heard of him before this evening but leaves as a Premier League player and goal scorer showing great technique on the finish to blast past Arsenal players on the line.

A note to the manager Rob Edwards.

Credit to Rob and the staff to get the win but this now is the second Premier League game in a row where the starting lineup really needs to be questioned. Not starting with the power of Tolu was a clear mistake against such a powerful Arsenal side. Armstrong on his own had no chance.

Then comments on Sky after the game, I think Rob needs to be careful when talking about the fans, they have had to endure a £700+ season ticket seeing only one win and horrific performances for most the season. They have a right to hold a voice too.

From my first Wolves match against Chelsea in 2003 I fell in love with the team and matchday experience. I work in digital marketing and have lived in Germany and Estonia over the past few years, this doesn’t stop me following Wolves and ensuring all my international friends become invested to the Wolf pack. I enjoy football, board games, a pint and travelling always excited to try new things. You will find me in the north bank on a matchday.
