Anthony Gordon responds to Liverpool speculation after Champions League heroics

Anthony Gordon was quizzed on potential Liverpool and Arsenal transfer links just hours after writing another eye‑catching Champions League chapter for Newcastle United.

Gordon has been on and off the Liverpool radar for roughly two years, with stories of the Reds weighing up a move stretching back to 2024.

The attraction is obvious: a boyhood Liverpool fan, a left‑sider comfortable off either flank, and a profile that has repeatedly been framed as a potential long‑term successor to Luis Diaz at Anfield. Reports in the summer of 2024 even suggested Liverpool explored a deal before Newcastle’s valuation and Financial Fair Play picture shut the door.

The winger produced a stunning four‑goal haul in Newcastle’s 6-1 demolition of Qarabağ FK in Baku, a result that has all but booked their place in the Champions League last 16.

After the game, Gordon was asked directly about renewed talk of a move to Liverpool and other top sides. He dismissed the claims in emphatic fashion, branding the latest round of speculation “a load of rubbish” and stressing that his focus is firmly on Newcastle:

“About me? I haven’t seen them. What are they saying?” he replied as before the Chronicle asked on Liverpool and Arsenal specifically:

“It’s the same old, same old. I think they just pick names out of a hat. They do [names out of the hat]. I haven’t heard anything; they might want to tell me before they tell you [the media].”

“I am focused on me and focused on the team, I am focused on right now. You look too far in the future and you start to underperform. And believe me I have done that (before) and I am not going to do that now.”

The England international has previously admitted that the aborted switch to his boyhood club after Euro 2024 affected his headspace for a spell.
