Is Steph Curry playing tonight vs. Celtics? Final status for Warriors star

After a week off due to the annual All-Star break, the Golden State Warriors will return to the court against the Boston Celtics on Thursday night.

Unfortunately for the Warriors, they won’t have their best player available for the contest.

Steph Curry ruled out vs. Celtics due to knee injury

Star guard Steph Curry has been officially ruled out of the game against Boston due to right patellofemoral pain syndrome, which is also known as "runner's knee -- an injury defined by pain and swelling around the kneecap area.

It will be the sixth straight game missed by Curry due to the issue, which also held him out of the All-Star game last weekend, despite being selected as a starter.

The fact that Curry still isn't good to go despite the extended rest afforded by the All-Star break is a bit concerning, but it just seems like a matter of the team not wanting to rush him back prematurely and risk further injury.

"We've got to be certain," Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. "He's got to be certain. ... It is a little nebulous, but that's the nature of the injury."

Curry also stressed the need for caution when discussing the injury earlier this month.

"It's a matter of learning as I go what works rehab-wise," Curry said. "Because it's still painful. You have to try to get rid of all the inflammation and pain. It's something we still have to monitor and injury-manage, but it's something where, if I come back too early, it could flare up."

While he'll be out against Boston, the Warriors have to hope that Curry will be able to return in the near future. They're in a tight fight for playoff positioning in the competitive Western Conference, and they're already without star forward Jimmy Butler for the remainder of the season due to a knee injury.

On the season, Curry has appeared in 39 games for the Warriors and he's averaging 27.2 points, 4.8 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals per performance.
