Manchester City will visit Newcastle United on Saturday, March 7, in the fifth round of the FA Cup. The fixture will kick off at 8pm and will be broadcast live on TNT Sports.

City's clash with Newcastle will be the fifth time the two sides have met this season. Following defeat at St James' Park back in November, the Blues beat the Magpies in the Carabao Cup semi-finals at the start of the year.

A 2-0 away win in the first leg thanks to goals from Antoine Semenyo and Rayan Cherki put the Blues in control of the tie. City then eased into the Carabao Cup final with a 3-1 win at the Etihad Stadium, securing a 5-1 aggregate victory over Eddie Howe's men.

City reached the fifth round of the FA Cup last Saturday afternoon thanks to a 2-0 victory over League Two Salford City. While the Blues progressed comfortably enough, the performance was far below the standards they set themselves.

In the third round, City were thoroughly dominant against Exeter City with a 10-1 victory over the Grecians.

While City have beaten two lower league opponents to reach this stage of the competition, Newcastle have had a much more difficult path to the fifth round. They needed a lengthy penalty shootout to beat fellow Premier League side Bournemouth in the third round.

Newcastle then travelled to Aston Villa in the fourth round and were victorious as they came from behind to beat their ten-man opponents. The next time City will face Newcastle is this Saturday when they host the Tyneside club in the Premier League.

Should City win that game, they will move to within two points of Premier League leaders Arsenal. The Gunners squandered a two-goal lead to draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday night and opened the door for City to cut the gap this weekend.
