The Hammers boss, who is part of the BAME community was appalled at the scenes after Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior accused Benfica's Gianluca Prestianni of racist abuse.
The match halted for several minutes as and after the match Benfica head coach Jose Mourinho's accused Vinicius Junior of inviting trouble for the way he celebrated after scoring a goal as Madrid won 1-0 at The Bernabeu in The Champions League.
Santo refused to comment directly on Jose Mourinho's controversial comments on the incident but hopes the matter will be resolved in the correct way.
As they prepare to face Bournemouth in the Premier League this Saturday, Santo said at his pre-match press conference: “That situation, I condemn it. There is no place for that in our society. I hope the authorities continue to fight against racism.”
Santo also said the team have benefited from the arrival of Taty Castellanos, who has played a vital role in West Ham recent resurgence.
The Argentine forward has scored two goals so far since he arrived from Italian club Lazio in January.
Santo said: “I think we have been lucky to have him. Since he joined, he has brought a lot of energy. The hard work, the goals. The way he plays football that is more important. We had a look at him, and we decided to bring him in because we believe in him.”
On Bournemouth, Santo said the Hammers need to show them respect if they are going pick a result against them.
He added: “I see it as another game. Focus on ourselves and ignore the other teams.”
“Play the game. Realize and respect the opponents. They are a team that are playing well. Good manager, good players.”
“It is a big test. We need to realize they are a good team, and we will need to assess them well.”
West Ham are unbeaten in their last nine Premier League meetings with Bournemouth (W3 D6) since a 2-0 away loss in January 2019.
