Celtics reunite with 6-foot-8 forward from championship season

After the NBA trade deadline, the Celtics were one of several teams with the flexibility to sign players, with a couple of roster spots open.

A couple of weeks after the deadline, the Celtics have finally decided to fill one of their open roster spots, signing a familiar face who played with the team just a couple of seasons ago.

What former Celtic did the team bring back?

NBA insider Michael Scotto reported Thursday morning that the Celtics signed forward Dalano Banton to a deal.

It's just a 10-day contract for now, so Banton's role with the team will likely be a small one, unless the team feels he could play a bigger role in the rotation.

The Celtics are being strategic with roster spots, as they are very close to the luxury tax/apron boundaries.

We may see several 10-day contracts until they reach a point where it makes sense to sign a player to a contract that lasts the rest of the season.

Banton was on the Celtics at the start of the 2023-24 season, the same year they won the title.

He played 24 games with the team, averaging 7.1 minutes, but was later traded to the Trail Blazers at the deadline that season.

Banton most recently played with the Clippers this season, but he got minutes in only two games.
