Perhaps the last thing Liverpool fans want to hear about is Aston Villa’s transfer dealings.
The Reds fanbase have not been happy with how Harvey Elliott’s loan spell at Villa Park has been handled. The 22‑year‑old midfielder has been frozen out of Unai Emery’s long‑term plans despite the presence of an obligation‑to‑buy clause in his deal, with reports suggesting Emery is reluctant to pull the trigger on a permanent £30–35 million move.
Elliott has been left out of matchday squads, leaving Liverpool supporters feeling that Villa have deliberately limited his game time to avoid being forced into a big‑money purchase.
Now, a fresh report from the Telegraph suggests Villa are looking to add another ex‑Liverpool man to the fold, with the club emerging as one of the front‑runners to secure Harry Wilson on a free transfer this summer. The Wales international, 28, is entering the final months of his contract at Fulham and shows no signs of agreeing an extension, leaving Premier League clubs circling for a bargain‑price winger.
Wilson has enjoyed his most productive Premier League campaign this term, managing eight goals and four assists in 25 appearances.
Villa had already shown interest in Wilson during the January window as a relatively low‑cost option, but Emery prioritised a central striker and instead brought in Tammy Abraham to bolster the attack. With the Spanish tactician still searching for long‑term solutions on the right flank, Wilson’s impending free‑agent status and current form make him a prime target, and Villa are now believed to be at the front of the queue to land him on a Bosman deal in the summer.
Everton are also believed to be keen on the Liverpool youth product.
