The Kansas City Chiefs are reeling after going through their worst season of the Patrick Mahomes era. Kansas City missed the playoffs entirely and also saw Mahomes go down with an ACL injury that may affect his status for the start of the 2026 season.
The Chiefs have restructured Mahomes’ contract to help add talent around him next season.
“The Kansas City Chiefs restructured Patrick Mahomes’ contract this week, lowering his salary cap number from $78.2 to $34.65 million for the upcoming season and creating $43.56 million in salary cap space,” ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter tweeted.
Unfortunately, Kansas City may have more holes to fill in than it originally anticipated.
“Rashee Rice’s longtime GF and mom of his two kids filed an explosive lawsuit against the NFL star, accusing him of choking, strangling, scratching, hitting, and headbutting her over a nightmare 19-month period,” reported TMZ.

If found guilty, this could result in a lengthy suspension for Rice or even in the Chiefs deciding to move on.
Fans reacted to the report on social media.
“19 months of choking, strangling, and headbutting allegations against the mother of his kids and the NFL hasn’t said a word yet. Watch how fast this gets buried,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“This guy is so much trouble…. I would release him, but you know the Raiders or the Bills would pick him up. If it is true, he should not play again,” someone else added.
“This is just heartbreaking to read,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see where things go from here.
