7 already confirmed out of Manchester City v Newcastle United - plus 6 major doubts

Newcastle United injury news: The latest affecting Eddie Howe and Pep Guardiola’s squads ahead of Manchester City and Newcastle United’s Premier League clash.

The two clubs have already met in Premier League and Carabao Cup action this season, with City winning the last two meetings. The Magpies, though, did emerge victorious from the reverse fixture in the league back in November and head to the Etihad Stadium aiming for their first ever Premier League double over the Citizens.

However, to do that they will have to win a league game without Bruno Guimaraes for the first time ever, whilst Eddie Howe will also be without a number of other key players for their trip to the north west. Pep Guardiola, meanwhile, has significantly fewer injury worries to deal with this weekend than his opposite number and could even welcome back a couple of key players.

Here, we take a look at the latest injury news from both camps ahead of Newcastle United’s Premier League clash with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium:

Manchester City injury news v Newcastle United

Josko Gvardiol - out

A bad ankle injury is set to keep Gvardiol sidelined for a number of months. The Croatian international faces a race against time to be back fit ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

Mateo Kovacic - out

Kovacic will miss this weekend’s game and, like Gvardiol before him, could miss most of the remainder of the campaign.

Savinho - doubt

A thigh injury has kept Savinho out of action since New Year’s Day. Guardiola confirmed last month that he was still a ‘few weeks away’ from returning to action. Having had seven days of rest since their last outing, could he return this weekend?

Erling Haaland - doubt

Haaland wasn’t named in Guardiola’s matchday squad for their FA Cup win over Salford City last weekend. The Manchester City boss admitted that Haaland ‘wasn’t 100%’ ahead of that game.

Max Alleyne - doubt

Alleyne picked up a knock last week and may not be risked against Newcastle United.

Jeremy Doku - doubt

Fabian Schar - out

Schar suffered an ankle ligament injury against Leeds United last month and has been ruled-out of action for the foreseeable future.

Emil Krafth - out

Krafth has undergone surgery on a knee injury and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.

Tino Livramento - out

Livramento suffered a hamstring injury last month. An initial return date in March has been placed on Livramento’s return to first-team action, meaning he will miss the clash against Pep Guardiola’s side.

Bruno Guimaraes - out

Guimaraes suffered an injury late on against Spurs last week and missed their FA Cup victory at Villa Park on Saturday. It has since been revealed that the Brazilian will miss a substantial amount of matches and is not expected to return to action until after the next international break. An estimated eight to ten weeks on the sidelines will keep Guimaraes out of action until April.

Yoane Wissa - out

Wissa picked up a knock in training last week ahead of their trip to Villa Park. Whilst he is not a long-term injury concern, he is expected to miss out this weekend.

Lewis Miley - doubt

Miley hasn’t featured since their draw with PSG in January with a leg injury continuing to keep him sidelined. Howe, though, offered a positive update on the midfielder in midweek and confirmed that he could be back in action very soon. Whether that comes at the Etihad Stadium or not remains to be seen.

Sven Botman - doubt

Botman has missed Newcastle United’s last two matches with a back injury. That is not expected to keep him out of action for too long, though, and he could be in contention to feature this weekend.
