While Lane Johnson is returning to the Eagles for the 2026 campaign, Landon Dickerson's future is very much up in the air
The Philadelphia Eagles have some work to do this offseason. After winning Super Bowl LIX in dominant fashion, the Eagles were bounced in the playoffs by the injury-plagued San Francisco 49ers in the wild-card round in 2025. With internal drama brewing once again in Philadelphia, it seems like some big changes could be on the way.
One position that will be worth watching over the next few weeks is the offensive line, which did not play up to expectations last season. While the team received some great news regarding longtime right tackle Lane Johnson, it sounds like star left guard Landon Dickerson is still contemplating his future in the NFL at just 27 years old.
Landon Dickerson Still Mulling Retirement in Wake of Lane Johnson News

In 2024, the Eagles’ offensive line was perhaps its greatest strength. With a star-studded group leading the charge, the o-line was able to pave the way for Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts on the ground, while also keeping Hurts standing upright in the pocket when he dropped back to pass. This past season, though, injuries hampered one of the most consistent units in the entire NFL.
Johnson was one of the guys impacted the most by injuries, as he missed seven games in 2025 due to a Lisfranc injury in his foot. Considering how he is set to turn 36 years old in May, it seemed like he could be set to retire this offseason, but he is going to return for at least one more year in 2026, which is a big win for Philadelphia.
Dickerson, on the other hand, suited up for 15 games, but he battled a myriad of injuries along the way, and they had an impact on his performance. While he has only played five years in the NFL, it sounds like the injuries are beginning to take a toll on Dickerson, as reports indicate he is seriously considering retiring at the age of 27 years old.

Landon Dickerson Retiring Would Be a Huge Blow for the Eagles

Prior to the 2025 season, Dickerson had earned three straight Pro Bowl selections, and in March 2024, he signed a four-year, $84 million contract that indicated he was a part of the team’s long-term plans on offense. Simply put, the left guard position wasn’t a spot that Philly figured it would have to worry about for years to come, but that could change in the blink of an eye.
Keeping Johnson around for at least one more year is a win, but losing Dickerson could be an even bigger loss, considering how he’s only 27 years old and conceivably still has several years of good production left in him. As a result, his status will be worth keeping tabs on as Philadelphia will likely be hoping for a final decision soon so that it can begin to make a plan if he does decide to call it a career.
