In a rather unconventional manner, Liam Rosenior spoke to the media on Thursday, two days before his team’s Premier League clash with Burnley. The Chelsea boss spoke on a variety of topics including the Real Madrid vs Benfica controversy before being asked baout one of the many injured names on his team. This got us an update on the Marc Cucurella injury that forced the Spaniard off over a week ago against Leeds United.

During his press conference, the manager admitted that he currently has no exact timeline for a recovery. He reiterated that the full back suffered a hamstring injury and as anyone knows they can be incredibly tricky to fix. Rushing a player back too quickly can lead to reinjury and worse knock on effects. The coach didn’t seem too phased as he noted he has players that he believes can cover at left back.

This could be the last we hear about the injury for some time as the player is likely to be kept out for as long as hee needs. Cucurella is one of the Blues’ best and it would be better to have him fit for the last embers of the campaign than to rush him back and end his season early, and potentially his World Cup.

With an uncertain timeline, there does come some interest over who can become the main Chelsea left-back in the absence of a usual starter. This will be particularly important for big league matches and Champions League outings where Jorrel Hato’s youth may count against him. While the former Ajax man is the only natural left-sided defender now, he can’t stand in for every single fixture either.
