Cleopatra "Cleo" Cowley, Democratic candidate for Illinois House 34th District

The most pressing problem in the 34th District is community safety rooted in unresolved trauma, disinvestment and systems that respond too late instead of preventing harm. Too many families are navigating violence, grief and economic instability without coordinated support, and too often policy treats these issues in silos. My approach is prevention-first and people-centered. I support sustained investment in trauma-informed mental health services, violence interruption and youth and family support that meet people before crisis. This includes expanding community-based programs, strengthening schools as hubs of care and ensuring survivors of violence have access to long-term healing, not just emergency responses. I will also push for accountability and coordination across state agencies, so resources actually reach the neighborhoods most impacted. Public safety means more than enforcement; it means stable housing, quality education, accessible mental health care and communities resourced to heal and thrive.
