Man United are reportedly interested in a Chelsea star heading into the summer transfer window.
Man United were all in on signing a striker in the summer transfer window. It was because Rasmus Hojlund was sold to Napoli, and Joshua Zirkzee really struggled for form since joining the club.
However, because he hasn’t hit the ground running, and Zirkzee remains nowhere to be seen, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Man United go after a striker in the summer transfer window.
Man United set to re-ignite interest in Liam Delap
In the summer, one of United’s transfer targets was Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap. However, United lost the race for Delap, as he joined Chelsea for £30m, and the Red Devils opted for Sesko instead.
Since moving to Chelsea, Delap has struggled to find consistent form and consistent game time, as the 23-year-old has scored just one goal in 17 Premier League games since making the move to Stamford Bridge.
According to Caught Offside, Man United are set to re-ignite their interest in Delap, as the striker could be willing to leave in the summer, amid his lack of form and lack of consistent game time. It is understood that United aren’t the only Premier League side that are keen on Delap.
The report includes that Newcastle United, Brighton and Sunderland are all interested in the 23-year-old too, and that they could rival Man United to sign the English striker, should Chelsea sanction his exit in the summer.
Man United also eyeing Jean-Philippe Mateta
Delap isn’t the only Premier League striker who has been linked with a summer move to Manchester United, as Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta remains on the radar after his failed January move to AC Milan.
The Frenchman had agreed to join AC Milan, and a fee of £30m had been agreed between the two sides; however, due to an injury, he failed his medical, and hasn’t featured for Crystal Palace since. Mateta isn’t undergoing surgery, but he may not play again for Palace after what happened in January.
According to recent reports, Man United are keen on the striker, and could make a move for the 27-year-old, who could be available on the cheap, seeing as he wants to leave Selhurst Park, and Palace signed his replacement in Jorgen Strand Larsen.
Mateta has made 23 Premier League appearances for Palace this season, scoring eight goals. This comes after a season when he managed to net 17 goals for Oliver Glasner’s side, helping them to qualify for the Europa Conference League, and win their first ever FA Cup title.
