Arsenal are living in dreamland this season. The Gunners are on top of the Premier League and Champions League as well. Arsenal are alive in all the competitions this season and are looking to stock multiple silverware to their trophy cabinet. Despite the season going so well, there are visible weaknesses in the Arsenal squad. And the weaknesses are holding the team back from completely being unleashed. So moving forward, the Summer transfer window is going to be extremely crucial for Arsenal. There will be multiple areas in the Arsenal squad that manager Arteta and the club will look to strengthen.
Arsenal and their attack
For a team that is competing for every single available trophy, it has to possess a dangerous attack. Over the years, all great teams and eras have had some of the most productive attacking players. Because great attacks used to produce goals. However, this Arsenal attack is struggling to produce goals. The attacking players are finding it extremely difficult to create goals and goal-scoring opportunities. Some might blame manager Mikel Arteta‘s rigid, system based football. But in truth, the frontline Arsenal stars have failed to turn up this season.
Especially the Gunners’ starboy Bukayo Saka, is struggling to score goals, despite having consistent performances. Arsenal’s blockbuster summer signing from last year, Viktor Gyokeres, has also failed to produce the expected level of goal contributions this season. This will urge the club and manager Mikel Arteta to bolster the attacking options in the squad, come summer.
Areas Arsenal should look to strengthen
When you look at the Arsenal side, it is very evident which areas they will need to strengthen. The Gunners proudly boast one of the most reliable defensive group of players in the world. They possess the best center back pairing in the league in the form of Gabriel and Saliba. Arteta’s men also have great midfield options like Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi. However, it is the attacking positions that have been lacking this season for the North London side.
Their starboy Bukayo Saka has been barely contributing goals. The Gunners’ big-money signing Gyokeres from Sporting hasn’t lived up to expectations as well. Other than these two, experienced players Marting Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli have also been having disappointing seasons unfortunately. So Arsenal should really look to enhance their creative and attacking departments.
Positions Arsenal should look to improve
A very alarming upgrade that Arsenal should really consider is upgrading their left-wing position. Leandro Trossard has been the starter in that position for a couple of seasons. Trossard has done a decent job in that position but he hasn’t maintained the standards that are expected currently at Arsenal. His backup, Gabriel Martinelli is not having the best of seasons. In fact, Martinelli is probably having his worst season in his rather mixed Arsenal career.
Another position the Gunners should look to upgrade is the central attacking midfielder position. This is a sudden requirement of an upgrade. This has arisen because of captain Martin Odegaard’s request to leave the club in search of a different experience. Nevertheless, Odegaard has been having a difficult season anyway. So an attacking midfielder who possesses great creative ability and attacking precision is an immediate requirement.
Conclusion
Arsenal should not hit the panic button just yet. They are comfortably ahead in all competitions this season. However, their lack of creativity in attack is a concern that has to be addressed. Especially if Arteta and Arsenal are looking for long-term success. To conclude, the Gunners will look to bag a few trophies this season. But come summer, replacements should be made. And upgrades in certain positions are inevitable.
