Tyler Morton was sold to Lyon from Liverpool for a £15m fee in the summer of 2025 after he hardly featured under Arne Slot.
The Reds’ midfield has been described as a ‘big problem’ this season, and they may well wish they kept hold of the Englishman.
Curtis Jones has come under fire, while Slot has confirmed this week that Wataru Endo is out for a while.
Pick one player you’d re-sign – Luis Diaz or Trent Alexander-Arnold?
It leaves Liverpool short of senior options in the centre of the park, while Morton is flying with Lyon.
Tyler Morton impressing since Liverpool exit
He has cemented himself as a key figure in the Ligue 1 outfit’s XI and has now been praised by European football expert Andy Brassell.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Brassell claimed Lyon’s manager was very keen to get a deal for Morton done, before adding his value has likely tripled since Liverpool notched £15m for him last year.
He said: “Tyler Morton actually is a huge part of that because he was someone who [Lyon manager Paulo] Fonseca was, ‘We absolutely must get him’.

“He’s a player who I have a specific use for. I think he can fill this role, and in terms of being able to keep the ball moving in the attacking half of the pitch and take the sting out of the game when they’re not attacking, Morton has been exceptional.
“Liverpool sold him for £15m, he must be worth three times that now, he’s been so, so good this season.”

Liverpool’s sell-on clause for Tyler Morton
Slot didn’t start Morton often last season, and the player has previously explained why he thinks that was the case.
He said: “I think he thought I was a good player, but I don’t feel the trust was there as much.
“In my opinion, the limited opportunities were down to trust and not ability.
“When I got my opportunity in the cup, I felt like I played well. That’s all I could say. I stuck at it, stayed focused, got through to the end of the season and played in the under-21 Euros, which was amazing.
“I had a few conversations with him [Slot] during the season. A lot of footballers can be bitter about not playing and let their egos get in the way, but I’m not that type of lad.
“I personally disagreed with the limited amount of game time I got last season, but that was out of my control. I did everything I could.”
He is now being given a chance to shine in France and Morton is already receiving transfer interest, which could be good news for Liverpool.
The same report claimed that the Reds have a 20% sell-on clause on the player. So, a tripling of his valuation would not be the worst thing in the world, even if it’s because he’s excelling away from Anfield.
