Liverpool still have plenty of work to do this season, but it’s already clear that the Reds will need to make some moves in the summer transfer window.
Arne Slot’s side boosted their Champions League hopes with a victory over Sunderland last Wednesday, and the Liverpool manager has made it clear that securing a place at Europe’s top table is the only acceptable outcome – a goal that will likely shape their summer business.
The Reds followed that up with a 3-0 FA Cup win over Brighton at the weekend. Jeremy Jacquet is set to move to Anfield in the summer, but Liverpool appear to need additional defensive options.
During the winter transfer window, the club were keen to sign a right-back following injuries to Conor Bradley and summer signing Jeremie Frimpong. Frimpong has been ruled out of Liverpool’s upcoming trip to Nottingham Forest, Arne Slot confirmed.
The right-back has missed the last four games with a groin injury sustained against Qarabag in the Champions League last month and remains sidelined. However, Slot hopes to have him available for next week’s Premier League visit from West Ham.
Liverpool were previously linked with Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries and missed out on Sunderland defender Lutsharel Geertruida. They have also been linked with Hungarian right-back Roland Sallai.
According to The Leeds Press, Liverpool made a serious enquiry for Jayden Bogle, but Leeds had no intention of selling him in January. While there’s little expectation of renewed interest next summer, Liverpool are monitoring his performances. Other Premier League clubs may also watch him, but Bogle remains focused on helping Leeds avoid relegation.
Leeds have lost only two of their last 15 matches in all competitions, with Jayden Bogle impressing either at full-back or, showing his versatility, on the wing in recent weeks. The 25-year-old netted his first Premier League goal for Leeds in their 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest and also provided an assist in the late draw with Chelsea.
Asked if he feels flattered when he gets linked with big clubs, Bogle told BBC Radio Leeds: “No, like I said, I’m just solely focused on what we’re doing this season and the goals we’ve got to achieve.”
