Arsenal €10m offer just not enough – Gunners return, but need to get serious

Arsenal have again been linked with a move for Luis Benedetti, with Brazilian reports claiming fresh interest from England and Italy.

According to Palmeiras-related insiders in Brazil, both Arsenal and Como 1907 have signalled interest in the 19-year-old Palmeiras centre-back. However, Palmeiras have made their stance clear: offers in the region of €10m (£8.6m), like the one the Gunners intended to send last year, will not even open negotiations.

That figure has already been tested. Similar approaches from Arsenal and Barcelona were rejected when they hovered around the same level.

Palmeiras’ valuation and internal plan

Palmeiras’ board are demanding close to €20m (£17.2m) before considering a sale. That valuation reflects both Benedetti’s potential and the club’s development strategy.

Manager Abel Ferreira has requested the youngster remain part of the squad for gradual integration. The initial plan was not to cash in quickly but to develop him internally and increase his value.

At 19, Benedetti is seen as a long-term asset. Palmeiras believe regular involvement in Brazil will strengthen their negotiating position. Therefore, there is no urgency to sell unless their conditions are fully met.

That said, one variable could alter the picture. If Palmeiras sign another centre-back in the coming window, space could open in the squad. Even then, the price tag would remain firm.

What this means for Arsenal

For Arsenal, the situation is familiar. They have tracked Benedetti before and know Palmeiras’ stance. A €10m (£8.6m) approach will not move the needle.

If Mikel Arteta’s side see him as a serious project signing, they would need to edge closer to €20m (£17.2m). Otherwise, the deal is unlikely to progress beyond monitoring.

Meanwhile, Como are expected to send a representative to Brazil to better understand Palmeiras’ demands. That move could help clarify whether an agreement is realistic.

For now, Arsenal remain interested. However, unless their valuation shifts significantly, Palmeiras hold all the leverage.
