Durant, who is still hated in Oklahoma City after leaving the Thunder to form a dynasty with the Golden State Warriors, and also isn’t beloved in Brooklyn or Phoenix — his previous stops before the Rockets — is embroiled in a new saga surrounding an alleged burner account on social media site X.

The account has gone viral because it features someone, alleged to be Durant, ripping current Rockets like all-star Alperen Sengun and fellow starter Jabari Smith Jr.

At his first post-NBA all-star weekend media availability Wednesday, Durant declined to get into the matter.

“I know you got to ask these questions, but I’m not here to get into Twitter nonsense,” Durant told reporters, per Kelly Iko of The Athletic. “I’m just here to focus on the season, keep it pushing.”

That’s not exactly a denial, but Durant, who is in his first season with Houston — a team fourth in the Western Conference and seventh in the league’s overall standings — didn’t seem to think it would be a distraction.

“My teammates know what it is,” Durant said. “We’ve been locked in the whole season. Enjoyed our break. Had a great practice today, looking forward to the road trip.”

PAST HISTORY

Durant, who has scored more points than all but five other NBA players and will next catch Michael Jordan, has a history of being outspoken on social media, often replying to critics or to sporting matters in general.

He has admitted to trying to defend himself anonymously through burner accounts after his ugly divorce with the Thunder. A burner is seen as a way to do that anonymously and he has said in the past it allows him to be more authentic.

This latest drama surrounds an X account called @GetHigher77, which some believe is a private group chat between Durant and some friends.

There’s no proof the account is Durant’s, but that hasn’t stopped people from being enthralled by the content ever since it started being shared Sunday, when Durant was in Los Angeles making his 15th all-star appearance. Only LeBron James, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Kobe Bryant have made more.

WHAT IS ALLEGED?

The accounts take shots at not only various members of the Rockets, but also his former Suns co-star Devin Booker, their former coach Frank Vogel and members of the Warriors.

One tweet from the account called the Rockets a “s*** ass team” and said “your franchise player can’t shoot or defend,” a likely shot at Sengun.

The account also calls Smith “lowkey r*******,” James Harden “slightly delusional” and says “I wouldn’t say (Kyrie Irving) was competing wit me but that lightskin and that triple double cocaine bear was,” which some believe refers to Curry and Russell Westbrook.

WHAT’S HAPPENING LATELY?

Houston went into the break with losses in three of its last five games, including a defeat against Charlotte on Feb. 5 where a clip surfaced showing Durant, caught on microphones under the basket, telling Sengun to “play some defence.”

The Rockets have missed the play and leadership all season of Fred VanVleet, who tore his ACL in the summer, and recently fellow veteran Steven Adams went down for the year.

Durant is still playing at a superstar level though.
