The Los Angeles Lakers have named Lon Rosen as the team’s president of business operations.
Rosen started his career with the Lakers in the 1980s. He has served as the executive vice president and chief marketing officer for the Los Angeles Dodgers for the last 14 seasons.
As things stand, he has overseen the revitalization of the Dodgers brand through landmark partnerships, expanded global fan engagement, and an aggressive digital growth strategy.
Rosen replaces former president of business operations Tim Harris. Harris informed the Lakers staff earlier this week that this season will be his final with the organization.
"Harris, who was the driving force behind the massive local TV rights deal with Spectrum SportsNet, has been with the Lakers/The Forum for more than 35 years," Woike reported.
Rosen will now take over the reins for one of the most glamorous and successful franchises in all of sports. The 67-year-old is one of the most prominent executives in the sports and entertainment industry.
Are the Lakers Following the Dodgers Blueprint?
The hiring of Rosen comes as little surprise, given that Mark Walter is now the majority owner of both L.A. teams. On top of that, the Lakers are working with the Dodgers on their basketball affairs.
Lakers president of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka spoke on the partnership a few weeks ago.
“[It’s] been great to have sort of outside allies and advocates looking at the Dodgers and the success they’ve had and what they’ve built over there, and being able to tap into a person like Andrew Friedman for best practices,” Pelinka said.
“He’s so incredibly smart and has done such an amazing job bringing championships to the Dodgers,” Pelinka said. “So just to have another head of another team that you can, whether it’s a roster move, whether it’s a staff move, just someone that you can talk to has been an incredible resource.”
Walter purchased the Lakers for a whopping $10 billion in June 2024.
The Lakers are looking to do whatever it takes to implement the Dodgers blueprint as they look to reach the mountain top again.
