In recent seasons the Minnesota Gophers have fared well when it comes to having players develop into future NFL Draft picks. The school could be labeled Safety U with the recent emergence of talent like Antoine Winfield Jr. and Tyler Nubin. Koi Perich would have followed in that legacy, but opted to jump ship.

There was also a time that the Gophers were synonymous with stellar running backs. Lawrence Maroney and Marion Barber both took the nation by storm, and Darius Taylor has become a mainstay of late as well.

Between them was superstar Mo Ibrahim, and now back on the coaching staff, he’s helping to ensure the future of the program is well-represented at the position as well.

Greg Hargrow commits to Minnesota Gophers

Darius Taylor is entering his senior season for the Minnesota Gophers, and Fame Ijeboi decided to transfer. There will be future opportunity for a running back to step up, and Greg Hargrow is hoping that he is HIM.

The Mississippi native will join the Minnesota Gophers for the 2027 season. He had offers from Arkansas State, Kent State, Liberty, and New Mexico State.

Hargrow’s Rosa Fort team lost the 2025 state championship, but will look to avenge the defeat this season. He becomes the Gophers third commitment for their 2027 class, and the first since June.

Last season Hargrow posted 1,294 yards and 22 touchdowns. Ibrahim offered Hargrow a scholarship while at Kent State last year, and he helped to bring the momentum back to the U of M.

As an all-purpose running back, Hargrow sees himself being able to contribute beyond just the traditional running game. His highlight reel is impressive and the Gophers would love to add another data point among the talented rushers they have had in Dinkytown.
