Liverpool have been experiencing a turnaround in form in recent weeks, and Arne Slot has identified some of the causes — but not all.
If we’re talking about avoiding losses, Liverpool have been superb in that regard. They have fallen to defeat just twice in their last 19 games.
But the feeling around the club is not reflective of that. There have been far, far too many draws.
Things are moving in the right direction, though.
Pick one player you’d re-sign – Luis Diaz or Trent Alexander-Arnold?
During his press conference ahead of Liverpool’s trip to the City Ground this weekend, Slot cited improved fitness and better set-piece play as two ‘simple’ reasons for the recent improvements, but there are more reasons we can discuss.
Liverpool’s back line have found consistency
There is potential crossover with the Dutchman’s set-piece point, but Liverpool have defended much better in 2026.
In 12 games, they have conceded just ten goals, and they look far less open in transitional moments.

That’s down to individual improvements from Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and especially Milos Kerkez. Those three have found common ground despite the volatility of the right-back spot.

The new signings are finally gelling with the old Liverpool guard
This season has been strange for a number of reasons, one of which is how the form of the new and old stars is like a revolving door.
Florian Wirtz, for example, was largely ineffective early in the season, but the slack was picked up by the likes of Ryan Gravenberch and Curtis Jones.
Then, when the German exploded into life, those same players dropped off considerably. And they are just a couple of examples.
Now though, it looks like form is aligning. Mo Salah has looked far better for Liverpool, Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike are forming a special connection, and the overall levels and consistency throughout the squad look to be syncing up.
Alexander Isak is set to surpass Hugo Ekitike as Liverpool’s main man. Who’s ready? 🔥

Dominik Szoboszlai is world-class
It’s rather disingenuous to discuss anything positive about the Reds without mentioning Dominik Szoboszlai.
He has carried Liverpool on his back for much of the campaign, providing vital goals and assists to go along with his usual staggering work rate.
Szoboszlai is leading by example, and his efforts have certainly helped Liverpool turn their fortunes around in recent weeks.
