Philadelphia Eagles fans reacted to offensive tackle Lane Johnson telling Jeff McLane that he will play in the 2026 NFL season.
Right tackle Lane Johnson will be back for the Philadelphia Eagles next season.
The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane reported Thursday that Johnson told him he plans to play in 2026. The campaign will be Johnson’s 14th in the NFL.
“Having the future HOF right tackle will be key as HC Nick Sirianni alters the offense under new OC Sean Mannion in 2026,” wrote McLane on X.
“The Eagles will also have a new O-line coach after Jeff Stoutland resigned earlier this month. Johnson will lead a group that has had only one positional coach in the NFL. Chris Kuper will be taking over responsibilities as the scheme is likely to change.
“Johnson missed the final eight games of the season, including the playoff loss to the 49ers, with a Lisfranc foot injury. But he has continued his rehab as he works to regain full strength.”
Johnson faced an uncertainty future because of age and health after the Eagles lost in the NFC wild card round during January. Johnson didn’t play after Week 11 and missed the postseason for the Eagles to end 2025.
In May, the tackle will turn 36 years old.
Most reacted positively to Johnson’s news. But not everyone did on social media.
Lane Johnson Coming Back for Eagles
Johnson coming should provide the Eagles offensive line a boost. Most Philadelphia fans focused on that positive fact after McLane reported Johnson’s intentions to play in 2026.
“Probably a great sign of what’s to come,” wrote J. Kosh on X. “Lane believes in what’s being put out there. Otherwise would’ve been a perfect time to retire.”
Probably a great sign of what’s to come. Lane believes in what’s being put out there. Otherwise would’ve been a perfect time to retire. Also Lane is not one to go out with injuries.

“Congratulations on getting another 6 games at best and then he’ll retire after another injury!”
Some fans, though, were less optimistic.
“Great. Now who is going to play the other 7 games at RT when he gets hurt again?” Coach_Eisy wrote.
