She reshared a photo from the 49ers’ official Instagram account. The image showed Fredcarrying the Mexican flag as he led the team onto the field during their 2022 game against the Arizona Cardinals in Mexico City.
Sydney added the caption “Vamosss!!! We cannot wait for round 2 in Mexico.” This post highlighted her support for the return trip.
Reports noted that both Fred and Sydneycould not be happier with the announcement. They enjoyed their time in the country during the previous visit.
Fred Warner embraces heritage with Mexican flag display at Estadio Azteca
Fred Warner has Mexican heritage through his mother’s side. His grandfather was from Mexico. In 2022, he carried the Mexican flag before the Monday night game at Estadio Azteca. The 49ers won that game 38-10.
Fred later praised the fans, calling them amazing and saying the atmosphere felt electric. He has worn items like cleats and helmet decals in past seasons with Mexican flag colors to show pride in his roots.

The 2026 game will take place at Estadio Banorte in Mexico City. The stadium, formerly known as Estadio Azteca, has hosted NFL games before, including in 2005, 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2022.
This game is the first in a three-year NFL commitment to play regular-season contests there in 2026, 2027, and 2028. The opponent and exact date will be set when the full schedule is released in the spring. The game is expected in December.
The 49ers also have another international game in 2026. They will face the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, Australia, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. That matchup could open the season in early September or play mid-week.
With trips to Australia and Mexico, the team has logged more than 38,000 round-trip travel miles this season. This could set a record for an NFL franchise.
The NFL plans nine international games in 2026 across several countries. For the 49ers, the Mexico game ties directly to Fred’s background. Sydney’s social media post captured the family’s positive outlook on returning to Mexico City.
Fred Warner’s impressive 2025 season was cut short in Week 6 when he suffered a fractured and dislocated right ankle. Up to that point, he had recorded 51 combined tackles, along with two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery, showing his impact on the field.
Earlier that year, in May 2025, he had signed a three-year, $63 million contract extension, cementing his status as the league’s highest-paid linebacker. Despite the unfortunate injury, Warner’s contributions before this setback were significant, reflecting his skill and value to the team.
