The Dolphins are shaking things up, releasing wide receiver Tyreek Hill and pass rusher Bradley Chubb this week, and Miami might not be done yet.
Miami might consider parting ways with veteran free agent safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, and according to CBS Sports' Bryan DeArdo, a move to the New England Patriots could be an ideal fit for him.
"New England's defense was largely exceptional last year, but one area where they struggled at times was in the red zone (they ranked 30th in the league in that area during the regular season)," DeArdo wrote on Thursday. "This is where Fitzpatrick's ability as a ballhawk and run-stuffer could really come in handy.
"The big question here is whether the Dolphins would be willing to trade Fitzpatrick to a divisional foe. They probably wouldn't unless the Patriots made them an offer they couldn't refuse."
Fitzpatrick is gearing up for his ninth NFL season and returned to the Dolphins for a second stint last summer. Miami originally traded him to the Steelers in 2019, but Pittsburgh sent him back to the Dolphins.
The 29-year-old safety is a five-time Pro Bowler and a three-time All-Pro, but he hasn't received a Pro Bowl selection since 2024.
Fitzpatrick would be a great fit for New England, but the Patriots may only be able to bring him on board if the Dolphins decide to release him, since in-division trades are quite rare.
