The fallout of Kevin Durant’s alleged burner Twitter account insulting current and former teammates led to Devin Booker having to discuss the topic. Fans pieced together various clues to find what is assumed to be a secret Durant Twitter account that he used to talk trash about other NBA players in various group chats. Booker was mentioned due to Durant’s time with the Phoenix Suns over the past few seasons.
AZ Central reported that Booker said the following in response to Durant’s burner insulting him and other people from the Suns franchise:
“I was just with him All-Star weekend. Nothing was said about it. You don’t know what’s true and what’s not nowadays. I don’t pay too much (attention) to it. Even if it is true, I understand there are trolls nowadays. That’s what a lot of social media is. It’s trolling, and it’s a good time. It’s a fun time. I don’t take any of it too personally.”
Booker was the bigger man to show no hostility towards Durant since they’ve held a relatively positive relationship, despite the partnership ending in failure. The first comment was expected since Durant has yet to confirm it’s him, but Booker made it clear he has no issues even if it’s truly KD.
Did Kevin Durant Insult Devin Booker?
Some of the comments about Phoenix showed that Durant held on to some resentment towards how the fans and media portrayed him compared to Booker. Durant allegedly said that everyone viewed the Suns as his team when they lose, but they were Booker’s team when things were going well.
Another bold comment saw Durant comparing Booker and former head coach Frank Vogel to historical dictators responsible for atrocities across the world. If the burner is really Durant, he clearly had some negative feelings over how the Suns experiment went.
Phoenix acquired Durant from the Brooklyn Nets and mortgaged their future to contend for a title. Unfortunately, they never came close, and Durant was once again traded to the Houston Rockets. Durant’s burner featured insulting Suns comments both during his time in Phoenix and after the trade.
Devin Booker Was Always Above Durant
Phoenix took a big risk by trading Durant and opting to invest in role players around Booker. Dillon Brooks is having the best season of his career, and the rest of the roster is playing great basketball behind Booker’s leadership to easily get past the Durant era failing.
Booker remains the face of the franchise, and Durant likely resented that from his time with the Suns. Any player joining a franchise that already has the fan favorite superstar will risk feeling secondary. Durant didn’t enjoy some of the fan perceptions about the team and felt their loyalty to Booker made him a scapegoat.
Most players insulted by Durant in these alleged messages have yet to give an official response. Booker is the first and only one to say that he has no issues with Durant if the statements were made by him. Peace of mind with today’s Suns team makes it easier for Booker to put this behind him.
