The Baby Boo syndrome is spreading on TikTok. The trend started when multiple users started posting their dance to NBA YoungBoy's song What You Is. The rapper released the song in Sep. 2025, and initially, TikTokers uploaded twerking challenge videos to the lyric, "She gon' call me baby boo."
As the different remix versions of What You Is spread online, the trend turned into a meme. Netizens started using that particular lyric in their comedic videos. Some started dancing wildly to remixes or sped up versions of "She gon' call me baby boo." This dance is now known as Baby Boo syndrome.
It is worth noting that Baby Boo syndrome is not real. TikTokers are jokingly claiming that the syndrome, which is a dance challenge, is spreading within different schools and that schools supposedly need to be shut down.
In one such viral video, one user claimed that the syndrome seemingly "affected millions worldwide." Some other videos show people dancing in public spaces, such as parks, buses, classrooms, etc. The meme is quickly spreading, garnering millions of views on TikTok.
Netizens react to the Baby Boo syndrome
As the joke spread on TikTok, the majority of TikTok users joined the meme by either participating in videos or joking about it in the comment section. They jokingly made remixes with different artists and claimed that they were suffering from the syndrome.
However, some TikTok users called the trend unfunny and said that after people spammed the internet with the same jokes, it supposedly stopped being humorous.
"I hate to say this but yeah no it was never rlly funny to me it was just rlly annoying especially after everyone made more and more remixes," one TikTok user wrote.
"It was funny til people started making remixes of songs with it just saying “babyy boo” like it gets to a pointt," another user commented.
"No cause whoever started this trend needs to come to the front, what have you done," one user noted.
Some netizens even claimed that the meme was "ableism" and it reportedly made fun of people with autism and Tourette's syndrome.
"The baaby boo syndrome is just weird because it feels like Ableism but disguised as a joke," one TikTok user added.
"It was funny until everyone started spamming it," one user wrote.
"Yeah it's a dig at people with autism or tourettes IMO," another netizen noted.
